Well, I had my VQ for HDHH and it did’t disappoint. I actually had to plan, read, and prep, my Q. I knew I wanted my VQ to cover two things. 1. GOOD and 2. Do not be afraid.
The first comes from Jocko Willink “Good” and excerpt from his field manual “Discipline = Freedom” Basically, Jocko is referencing a PMA… Positive Mental Attitude. As you probably know it in today’s terms “When Life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. In the book he uses multiple examples of life dealing you a short hand and you making the best of it. Here is the youtube
Well, being the simpleton that I am, thought about how the Good Book handled the same situation of fear and doubt. So i used the Google Machine and ask what was the most common theme or phrase in the Bible, and the answer is “Do not be afraid” .
WOW… That’s it??? “don’t be afraid”… Sure enough, that is the most prevalent command in the Bible. In the NIV it is repeated as quoted 70. Almost every time in every form it is followed by an action or promise from God. Don’t be afraid… I am with you, I will feed you, do not be discouraged,,, on and on and on.
using the google, I choose two passages for HDHH.
- Exodus 14:13 (Basically God is working thru Moses to move the Israelite’s out of slavery thru a strange and bare land in route to their promise land) “Do Not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you”
Here, as in every other reference, “Do not be afraid” is a command. It isn’t an idea, suggestion or hashtag.. it’s a Command unlike “hey, it’s Wednesday, its kind of a crappy day so you can fret over ___________________” Nope… the command is to not be afraid
2. Deuteronomy 3:22 “Do not be afraid of THEM , the Lord you God himself will fight for you”……. MIND BLOWN! the Creator of Heaven and Earth is on the home team??? Fighting not only for but, with me! I LIKE MY ODDS!.
Moses says do not be afraid of them… What’s your “them”? is it a bad day at work? missed promotion? stress? anxiety? lust? Whatever your “them” is, God says to not be afraid of it.
Men, life throws us all kinds of curves and puts pressures on us. Be a man, lead your home, provide, support…. blah blah blah (not a legal term) Point is, to face your “them” and take a deep breath, say GOOD, and know that you can not be afraid! It says it in the bible and that’s good enough for me!
Circling back….. I want to close with a good one, Romans 8:31 “What, then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Brother’s the Bible says that we should’t have fear, and as long as God is with us.. who can be against us. Having that belief in my heart, and each one of you by my side makes me feel invisible!
PS….. check yourself at the door, no need to take extra baggage inside.
