God Opens Eyes

For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? I Corinthians 4:7

Danny was headed up to his quarterly sales managers meeting of a large company. After coming down hard on one of his sales managers for his dip in sales he was brought up short by what happened after the meeting.  One of his peers told him that the sales manager he had just chastised, his wife was going through the latter stages of cancer.
Danny had desensitized himself for so long to God’s Spirit that the only thing that could get his attention was the sudden revelation that he had misjudged one of his most loyal sales managers.  This is how Danny tended to view his sales kingdom — a set of geographical territories that he could control.  Professionally, his pride had kept God out of the workplace.  It’s as if Danny had reserved control over a domain that he knew should belong to God. Whenever that happens God has a way of showing us that we do not know better than He does.
King Nebuchadnezzar had to learn some lessons in humility himself. God’s grace allowed him to chew grass like a cow for seven years so that he would be exposed to his need to become the God of his kingdom. These stories are given to us to teach each of us that we are not God of our kingdom. It’s a real danger when we fail to ask the right questions instead of answering our own questions. Questions like “How do You want me to handle this? Or inquire, “What does God’s Word call me to do in this situation? The reason for not asking these questions is simple ignorance or blatant arrogance. Neither benefits God’s man, and both carry high price tags.

Father, save me from not asking you questions.

Until next time,

CT
