The concept of obedience has become shrouded with a connotation of negativity. When obedience comes to mind thoughts of “must” or “have to” soon follow and not feelings of desire or longing. But when Jesus walked the earth he carried out a very different lifestyle of obedience. Obedience to God is choosing to live a lifestyle of love and devotion to our God who has loved us completely.
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.” – John 15:9-10
abide – (from webster’s)
- to wait for – I will abide the coming of my Lord
- to accept without objection – I will abide you decision
This morning, some F3 men (and one young lady) gathered around a small table covered with coffee, eggs and bagels. We even kinda took over the adjoining table. Why were we at the small table? Because the 707 group that meets there is still meeting – on the last week of school. Good for them. Anyway, these men – and one lady – sat down to discuss obedience, love and abiding. Small topics to begin the day.
The discussion was great, the fellowship even better, and the coincidences were somewhat eerie (right Loveseat?).
Thanks to HeeHaw for introducing me to the app “First 15” (find it in your app store – free). Where the basis of this mornings lesson came from. Thanks to Hardwood for being there to remind me what it’s like to be in college. Thanks to Geico for being there to remind me I’m not the only one with freak injuries (prayers of recovery to you Geico). And thanks to all the rest for making Wednesday mornings a little more fun than they ought to be.
See you next Wednesday morning at Sandy Bottom Bagels where we will definitely get to sit at the big table.
