9 men met in the gloom to attack the week head on and better ourselves. Six of us made it on time, and Fidget Spinner, Ricky Martin, and BlackBerry were fortunate to find us warming up on the pier. They redeemed themselves by bringing it hard in the workout.
Warmup at pier – Jack 100 – 25 each in cadence of SSH, seal jacks, smurf jacks, and plank jacks.
The thang – from the end of the pier, mosey to the lighthouse, do 30 merkins, mosey back, 30 dips, mosey back to lighthouse, 30 more merkins, mosey back, 30 more dips. The trick is that you have to accelerate your pace at each of the four legs of the run – aim for 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%. Plank on the 6.
rinse repeat with alternating 30 crunchy frogs and 30 2-count American hammers. Same thing on the 4 legs of the run – accelerate!
I surprised the pax with one more time -rinse repeat with 30 squats, 30 step ups (15 each side), though we cut down the run length to account for time. Still accelerating over the four legs.
COT – prayer breakfast tomorrow

I’m going to turn 40 this year, but I like to think that I am not slowing down as I approach middle age but instead continuing to accelerate (hopefully not accelerating into the grave, but accelerating into pushing myself and expanding my capabilities!). I told the pax that I found tremendous value in my first goruck event a couple years ago because it showed me that I am capable of much more than I realize, that I can push myself further if I choose. That is what I was hoping to achieve in small part with today’s workout.
This is not a physical body principle only – same applies even more so spiritually. See scripture below. This Scripture is not encouraging a do-it-yourself ascetic “religious” practice, but rather pushing back on complacency and pushing further into a relationship with our creator. It’s embracing the struggle to abide in Christ and follow his teachings, not so that we will be perfect but so that we will know him more and become more like him.
Accelerate into your week fellas!
1st Corinthians 9
24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
